Tranquility and Peace of Mind by Maya

Moroccan born Maya lives in Spain and, as with many other transgender people, feels that trust is perhaps the most important thing in the world when seeking out someone to guide patients through gender confirmation surgery. Through discussions within the greater community of transgender people, including those who had undergone the surgery as well as others who were still looking for a skilled surgeon, Maya quickly narrowed her choices down to but a handful of doctors and hospitals. She wanted to place herself in “good and trusting hands.” For Maya, that meant traveling to Kamol Hospital, where she found her expectations entirely met and fulfilled.

Trust, of course, is not easily won by anyone, especially when it concerns something so fundamental to life and self identity as gender confirmation surgery. That is why it was so important to Maya to feel part of a family when undergoing her procedure. When the day of her surgery arrived, she says, “I felt as if I was with my family and [my experience] was like that of a lot of other girls from around the world who had also come to the hospital.”

Ultimately, Maya feels the surgery has not only given her peace of mind but brought tranquility to her life. You can see that in the way the raven haired young woman expresses herself, a soothing but clear voice backed by self assured mannerisms exuding confidence. “I am very happy and feeling very well,” she now says. And she has a family of surgeons, nurses, staff members, and other transgender people to reinforce that feeling.
